Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded recent talk connecting him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who once served as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the persistent rumours surrounding his next move.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea manager in June 2024, is under contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a potential extra year option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.
Maresca's most recent comments come after he referred to a recent 48-hour period as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those original remarks had fueled considerable talk of a potential disagreement between the manager and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When asked if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we talk about different things. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The Italian did confirm he would definitely stay at the club next season and urged supporters to "continue to support the team".
In brighter news, Maresca indicated that injured attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back sooner than expected, potentially in contention for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.
The perceived disconnect between Maresca and the Chelsea board remains as an unhealed issue that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter in the open, there has equally been no apology offered, leaving the disagreement unresolved.
The atmosphere during the manager's press conferences has grown notably awkward, raising fears it could undermine what has otherwise been a promising beginning to the campaign.
Chelsea's sporting situation is positive: they are fourth in the league, have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and can achieve a better European draw with good results in their final games.
The prevailing uncertainty is whether this behind-the-scenes dynamic might begin to affect a team that was just starting to appear settled.
