“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”

He further emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”

League Precedent for Owner Penalties

This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:

• Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
• Former Tennessee Titans proprietor Adams received a $250,000 penalty in 2009 for a similar obscene gesture.
