Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice

Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.

Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.

Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.

The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
